Gene Tree Ascension

Overview

  • In April 2025, update 3.80 brought a new dimension to the Gene Tree: Ascension Tiers.
  • After you completely fill your Gene Tree, you may Ascend for a cost of 40 Genes.
  • It costs 567 Genes to completely fill your tree.
  • When you Ascend, your Gene Tree will reset and you will receive a powerful buff.
  • You retain all bonuses of the previous Genes even though your tree is reset.
  • You have to fill the tree again before you may Ascend again.
  • Buying new Genes after Ascension upgrade their power.
  • There are 10 Tiers of Ascension.
  • When you reach Tier 10 the tree no longer clears - you are at your maximum.
  • You cannot go back to lower Ascension tiers.

The Bad News

  • Once you Ascend you will permanently have all Genes from before the Ascension.
  • This means you will forever have the graphic change of Royal Wings.
  • Hope you like yellow.

Gene Power

  • Genes start at Level 1 and go up to Level 10.
  • The numbering is confusing because you get Level 2 genes when you Ascend to Tier 1.
  • Each level grows more powerful, some genes even doubling on every level increase.
  • Ascending clears the tree but the gene retains its bonus. Example, you buy Level 1 of a gene, then Ascend to Tier 1 of the tree. Your gene has cleared but it is still Level 1. When you buy it again it becomes Level 2.

Ascension Buffs

  • There are 10 Tiers of Ascension
  • Each Tier comes with a unique buff to part of your game.
  • As you Ascend, you keep all previous Tier buffs.

Tier 1: Flitter Returns

Your blue butterfly (Flitter) will begin giving you pearls and occasionally a gem when you tap him. Flitter was once a Gene, called Treasure Butterfly. It was the #1 Gene to get first on your tree so you can start collecting pearls and gems as soon as possible. Flitter has become instead the first Ascension buff.

Tier 2: Shells

Every cosmetic shell (skin) you have unlocked for your AppX crab will increase your King Crab set count by 100%. This means if you have unlocked 10 skins for your AppX crab, and you have completed 20 King Crab Sets in Land of Reptiles, your king Crab Sets will jump up by 10x to 220 total sets as well as 10x to each of the Common, Rare, and Legendary set counts. This is not a small increase to your overall power.

Tier 3: Cosmo

A new type of Abysswyrm has come to the riverbed: Cosmic Abysswyrm (aka Cosmo). Each time you perform a regular Ecdysis Cosmo will warp you a distance equal to 50 meters for each Land of Reptile Tier unlocked. There is a cap on this warp equal to 90% of the distance when you Ecdysis. There also seems to be an additional cap when performing the initial Ecdysis required by the Tournaments.

Tier 4: Gems and Mutations

Every Full Set of gems you have will increase the Mutation damage bonus by 200%. As of this writing nobody has reached this Tier to know if this is an actual multiplication or just adding a base value. We'll figure it out when we get there.

Tier 5: Polishing the Turd

It's no secret we think Evolution Gild is the worst pile of poop added to the game. This Tier buff adds a bonus to each Gild that will increase the crab damage by 1000%. Does this mean we think Gild is awesome now? Honestly, not sure as of this writing. Need to do some math.

Tier 6: Genetic Split Split Split

Every gem set you have increases the damage of Genetic Split by 100%. Not much to say here. This is pretty big.

Tier 7: Leechy Runes

Every Rune collected on the Jade Rune board increases the gold dropped from Golden Leech by 100%. We are not sure if this is a new multiplier or if it is just adding some base amount to the total. We also don't know if this only works while the Jade Beetle is awake or if you start gaining benefits on Day 1 of the month as you start collecting runes. As above, nobody is this far yet, so we will figure it out when we get there.

Tier 8: Jade Laser Enthusiasm

As your Jade Beetle shoots its laser, all damage is increased by 100% for each King Crab Set you have collected. It is not known if this is literally the number of KC sets you have, or if it is the modified number of sets due to the Tier 2 buff. Regardless this is only going to be useful while the laser fires, not full time.

Tier 9: Shadow Ninjas

Every level spent in Gene Lab increases the damage of Shadow Swarm by 100%. This is another big one as you will be spending a lot of genes in the Gene Lab soon (if not already).

Tier 10: Kingly Gems

Every full King Crab set in Land of Reptiles increases your Gem set count by 50%. We don't know if this means total KC sets or each individual set summed up. We also don't know if this is literally just going to multiply the Gem SET count or if it is going to boost your individual gems by that same amount to make a set that large. We will figure it out when we get there, but no matter how you slice it this is pretty big.
